I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have
one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult. -- E. B. White
Eileen Ross is a studio artist and creativity coach working in Black Mountain, North Carolina. She has been painting professionally since 1990, and her work has received awards in juried shows in New York, metropolitan Washington, DC, and in North Carolina. She has had several one-woman shows, including one in the Kennedy Center in Washington.
Ross’ work is lyrical and metaphorical rather then representational. Themes range from jazz musicians and circus performers to impressions of the wonders and power of nature, including pre- and post- Katrina New Orleans. Hands, faces and abstract symbolism arising from her own struggle with Multiple Sclerosis formed the basis of much of her early art and still arise on occasion. Found objects are often incorporated into her work, including bits of nature and even computer chips. She uses all media to express her interpretation of, and response to, both inner and outer worlds. Her love of various media leads to her being a “mixed media artist,” at least for now.
Her current work can be seen in three local galleries, including the Atelier in Asheville, TAAS Gallery in Old Fort, and Sourwood Gallery in Black Mountain.
